“Be Careful of Whom you put your Trust”
Text: Psalm 62:9-12
Introduction: Look to God with complete calmness. Trust God with controlled confidence. Understand that Contention only last temporarily. These were the three points from the sermon two weeks ago. Last week we shared with you about the perils of pressure, the power of perseverance, and the presence of providence. Today our series on Psalm 62 comes to an end. It is my sincere prayer that the series has been a blessing. The warnings throughout this Psalm focuses on the danger of putting you confidence in human or humanly controlled wisdom, for it will not suffice the one who inspires to have a right relationship with the LORD. So, today i want to share three things that text teaches to help us in “Being careful wit whom we put our trust.
Recognition of His Power (Ps. 62:9-10)
David here seems to warn his readers of how foolish it is to trust in humans. There are some visible and hidden discrepancies in every human. There really is no need to think that one is to elevate him or herself above his peers in any walk of life. Just because we are blessed with gifts, capabilities, or delegated or appointed stewardship's does not ascend us to the top of the ladder to look down on or cause others to advance up one rung at a time. He shares this with us because life is transitory, it last only a short time. Whether you are of low or high status , eventually you will have to answer to God in order that you receive your just reward. The text declares that, people are nothing but a breath. “Behold, you have made my days a few hand breaths, and my lifetime is as nothing before You. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!” Ps. 39:5 What is man that thou art mindful of him? When our lives are lived out of the realm of righteousness they are so insignificant that if weighed, the scales would not even move. We cant do enough good to tip the scales in our favor. Without God we are powerless and destine for ruin. That is the reason we should not worry about the advances of the wicked, the plots of those who try to hold us down by constraints that they would put on themselves. The Psalmist also says, Riches or materialistic things are not to be trusted. “Whoever trust in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf. Prov. 11:8 Riches and material things are a blessing from God to use to better our lives in every phase of life. And they are to be used during ones lifetime to enhance his quality of life. For what good is it to have money and material things and see and know something inadequate, deteriorating, broken, or dated and refuse to upgrade it because of fear, storage, or an unwillingness to adjust with the present time. If He is the all powerful God that you attest that He is, He provide you with that, He will provide you with whatever you need to meet each passing day.
Reliability of His Power (Ps. 62:11-12)
The text teaches us that we can rely on the power of God. David contrast this with the fact that God has declared that ultimate power is His. You can’t out think Him, over power Him with your conventional traditional thinking. You will have to trust Him to supply your every need. David says, I heard God say two things, He didn’t have to say it but one time. We just have not heard, or our necks are stiff. He said He is strong and loving, and power and justice belongs to God. Since power belongs to God and Him alone, justice will be rendered to everybody and it will be done based on the intent of a man’s heart. So if your motive is deceptive, or selfish in any kind of a way you will answer to God. So the Psalmist, declares that, he would rather rest,or put his confidence in the power of God than human devices.
Rendering of His Power (Ps. 62:12)
Not only can I rely on you power but I can count on your steadfast love. Because of your love, mercy and justice my confidence is in you. For you will render unto a man according to his work. Nobody is beyond the reach of God’s power and steadfast love. He is the judge of the righteous and the unrighteous. His power is so amazing until the bible says, Let the wheat and the tares grow together because He will do the separating. Don’t worry about the fallacies of human defaults and unrighteousness that flows from every human veins. There is a just God whose power and justice will prevail. Righteousness will have its rendering in Louisville Kentucky, and human laws will not cover up the injustices that were rendered in a judicial court a few days ago. It is a disgrace to hide behind technicalities when there is no justifiable proof that Breanna commited a crime. Punish the guilty, arrest the one who is in violation of breaking the law, but when a human life is taken and every effort was not made for innocent people to not be gunned down is inexcusable. A reckoning day is surely on its way because of a just and loving God, He will recompense every man according to his works.
Closure: So Let me encourage you saints of God to recognize the power of God over the affairs of humanity and fret not, because of the evils that exist in our nation and around the world. He is a reliable God and He is going to do just what He said He is going to do. Render to every man according to his deeds because he is all powerful and no other power will stand in that dreadful day. For I heard Him say by way of John the Revelator, “And behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city”
